Project Chakra

 

Many organizations today donate for beautifications in the city, such as at traffic islands, fountains etc. Many organizations have contributed to the installation of digital timers (Balance Time Indicators) at the intersections.

This is indeed good. But is it good enough?? Be a part and contribute to this transformation!

Project Chakra provides an excellent opportunity to the Organization to make a significant contribution to this transformation, in a very easy way. Also, the core program costs absolutely nothing to the organization. Participating more is entirely optional.

This Project aims at motivating members / employees of the organization to up the commitment of the Movement at a group level. Basic theme is:

HR/Admin can coordinate this and also encourage other group activities such as Car-pooling to reduce traffic, ensuring that the company bus (driver) always follows rules (e.g. stops only at proper points to ensure that it does not obstruct traffic), PUC & vehicle tuning camps and so on.

Silver Level program: (Basic implementation)
A] Groundwork
  1. Top management should be synchronized regarding the purpose of the Movement and Chakra.
  2. A manager either from HR or Admin (this is a natural choice, but it could be a manager from some other department also) should take up the responsibility for coordination. Additionally, as the project unfolds and activities increase, some active members / employees can join him to make an action team for Chakra. This manager as well as these additional people must be the ones who have joined the Movement having fully understood the concept of 100% commitment. Only then they will take up this work willingly and will be wanting do real difference.

This is not as daunting as it may sound to be! It will not load them even the slightest. It is like those small little things that a person does and finds time automatically, without affecting any other work, if s/he is fully interested.


B] Activities
  1. Spread information and awareness about the Movement among members & employees.
  2. Organize a meeting / presentation with the employees to present the idea and have an interaction.
  3. Coordinate and make the Movement stickers available in the office.

However, please note that nobody should be forced to take the sticker. Let a person understand the meaning of 100% commitment and then only go for the sticker. Under no circumstances, we want to have people driving the vehicle having the sticker and breaking the rules.


Silver Plus Level: Doing additional activities

Organization can periodically hold many group activities, which can save time for many people in the organization and help them to conform to rules as well as help reduce pollution. All or some of the following activities can be taken up

  1. Organize PUC & vehicle tuning camp
  2. Organize Vehicle condition checkup camp
  3. Provide help to employees / members for vehicle / document renewals / transfers (at a cost. Many people do not get these done simply out of lethargy, or due to the standard excuse of “No time”). Of course, provide this help for what is legally allowed.
  4. For employees / members using Cars, encourage Car-pooling. We have to reduce the traffic as well.
  5. Encourage people to use the bicycles for short distances. It will be good for our health, as well as that of the environment.
  6. If your organization uses private Buses to transport employees, please take steps to ensure that your company Buses ply & stop on the roads, in a responsible manner. (Remember, in many cases, name of your company is written on the Bus.) First educate the Bus contractor and drivers then demand this from them.   
  7. Step 6 above can be done much more effectively by encouraging the people using the buses to drive this cause. E.g. they should make sure that the Bus stops at points that don’t violate rules (not within 15 meters from Bus stops, 50 meters from intersection with signals or within 10 meters from any intersection without signals). Check this aspect and move the current Bus stops if necessary. This is so easy & yet adds so much value !

Even for this level, organization needs to only do coordination and employees will pay for the services.
