Current activities/ Activities to be taken up soon

Red: We desperately need help!

Amber: We can use more help here.

Green: This activity is going on very well.

Black: We can start this activity if there are volunteers.

  • SPTM Presentation in your company/ housing society

A lot of these activities are possible only when we have a critical mass of interested volunteers. And that in turn is possible only when we have a large no. of members!

One way of rapidly spreading SPTM is to organize an SPTM presentation in your company/ housing colony/ friends' circle.

You can either do the actual presentation; or organize one, and one of our volunteers will come & talk about SPTM!

  • "Safe Road Habits" workshops in schools

This activity is currently on in Abhinava Vidyalaya Primary School. We need to spawn it to multiple schools in the city.

A batch consists of about 10 students & their parents. An SPTM member discusses good road habits with them, for pedestrians, cyclists as well as drivers. The focus is not on traffic rules, but nuances of sharing the road with others.

SPTM members can participate as a presenters. Effort expected: One Sunday morning every two months.

What is needed to start this activity in your school: a) You will need to meet the Principal a few times. b) A group of 8-10 presenters to sustain the activity.

  • Stock/ distribute stickers in your locality

SPTM cannot succeed unless responsible citizens can connect to each other daily, even on roads. All SPTM members should sport the SPTM sticker on their vehicles, if they have any.

Getting these stickers to members can be made very simple if we have a good number of SPTM members who stock a few stickers, spread across the city!

  • Interact with Traffic Police in your locality

We have engaged the Kothrud Traffic Police in a discussion in order to improve enforcement of traffic rules in Kothrud. We will shortly present them a long term plan that details out what SPTM can do to help the Police achieve much higher enforcement levels.

Similar discussions need to be carried out with all branches of traffic police across the city.

  • Coordinate with volunteer groups like NSS/ Rotaract

Time and again we have a need to conduct some survey, get some data etc. If you have contacts with any volunteer groups who can help us, please let us know.

  • "Own a Road" for traffic signals

The job of maintaining all traffic signals in good condition has been given to an agency by PMC. Their concern is that a lot of times they don't come to know that some signal is not working properly. They will appreciate if citizens can give them this information, even over the phone.

If you can "own" some road, e.g. the road you take daily from office to work, you can easily inform this agency of any malfunctions you notice!

  • "Own a Road" for road signs

A lot of times we see wrong/ illogically placed road signs. You can keep an eye on a road, e.g. the road you take daily from office to work, and be in touch with PMC to ensure that all road signs on that road/ part of it are in good condition.

  • Masks for traffic police

The traffic police spend a lot of time in the most polluted parts of the city: traffic signals! If we can get a sponsor and provide them some masks, it will benefit them, gain us their support and create a lot of visibility for the Movement.

They would need about 600 masks. Our guesstimate is that the simplest of them cost Rs. 30 or so, or Rs. 80 or so for more sophisticated ones. Thus the sponsorship needed would be at least Rs. 18,000/-.
