Strategic Feedbacks

SPTM-PMC-str001: The traffic signals to have different cycle times at different times of the day

At present, Signals have same cycle time throughout the day. Due to this, it is seen many times that during off-peak hours, the signal in particular direction is Green far longer than it takes for the vehicles to pass in that direction. Since no vehicle is seen going in that direction, citizens who want to go in other direction tend to break the Red signal and go ahead.

Much better strategy can be to have at least two programs; one should be with shorter cycle time for off-peak hours and other with longer cycle time for peak hours. These should get selected automatically according to time of the day.

SPTM-PMC-str002: The traffic signals to work till late in the night.

Same timer facility should be used to switch the traffic lights to yellow blinker mode automatically, late in the night, say after 11 pm. It is seen that at present, the traffic Police switch the traffic lights to yellow blinker mode very early, when their duty gets over. However, now a days, there is substantial amount of traffic at many important junctions and there is complete chaos on the road, when the lights are switched to yellow blinker mode at 9 pm or even earlier.

SPTM-PMC-str003:  The traffic signals should have battery backup

Traffic signals, especially at important junctions, must have battery back up, since many times if there is a power failure, there is complete chaos and traffic jam.

SPTM-PMC-str004:  Movement of vehicles such as garbage trucks to off-peak periods

It should be considered if the movement of vehicles such as garbage trucks is shifted strictly to off-peak periods. At present many times these trucks move around in peak periods putting additional pressure on road traffic. Due to the way they need to park themselves, at an angle, to pick up the large garbage bins, they also create traffic jams.

They also blatantly break traffic rules. They need to told that the rules are for them too !
