Save Pune Traffic Movement considers
every organization working towards the betterment of the traffic situation
in Pune city, as a close relative i.e. a friend, not a competition. Our
ways could be different, but our goal is common, and hence we are all
friends working towards the same destination.
Some organizations are working towards
traffic control, some are educating people or/and school children and
creating awareness regarding traffic rules while some are working towards
reducing the traffic volume by promoting the usage of public transport
system or simply using the cycles instead of polluting the vehicles.
On this page you will find information
about (or links to) our friendly organizations.
PTTF: http://www.pttf.net/ PTTF
focuses on driving right policies for the city. Their focus is on
radically improving the public transport system of the city. If the city
has an excellent public transport, people will want to use it by choice
instead of using their personal vehicles for daily commute. This will
reduce congestion and traffic jams.
BetterRoads: http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/BetterRoads Better
Roads was formed during the monsoon of 2005, when the city was battered
with rains which led to huge potholes and bad roads. They work on making
PMC follow correct practices in building and maintaining roads, alongwith
proper drainage along the roads; and other related issues.
Pune Cycle
Pratishthan: This group promotes use of bicycles
even among white collared people. After all, Pune was once known as a
bicycle city. They also work on developing bicycle tracks all over the
city, encouraging their use. They organize a cycle rally on the first
Sunday of every month. The route of the rally varies every month, and is
published in newspapers.
Radicalz: They are also cycle
enthusiasts, who do not want to contribute by smallest degree to Pune's
pollution. Their motto is "Ride Daily, Celebrate Monthly!". On last
Saturday of the month, they celebrate through a cycle rally called
"Critical Mass".
