We, in Save Pune Traffic Movement, believe: Pune needs the following for the traffic to get completely transformed:

• A clear vision for the traffic of Pune, which will encompass the interests of all from pedestrian to truck driver and from citizen to governing authorities. It will provide a guiding light to enable us to define missions and plans of individual elements.
  
• Comprehensive long term plan, which will spell out Strategies and actions
  • to manage and limit the growth of vehicle population 
  • to make public transport system efficient and appealing 
  • to make roads network to meet the needs of automobiles as well as pedestrians and cyclists
  • to make road signs & signaling system efficient, accurate, adaptable and highly reliable. Right planning with careful analysis of traffic flow conditions, expected growth and proper use of technology can go a long way to achieve efficient control of traffic.
  • to make strict laws and efficient system of checks and controls for penalizing the defaulters heavily, making the rules-breaking an extremely costly option.
  • to spell out the roles and responsibilities of all the governing authorities and the citizens
  • to compulsorily make formal periodic review process (at least twice a year) to critically review the status of the every action and take corrective measures, where needed.
  • to plan for the optimal movement of traffic taking into account the types of population areas and the movement of people based on various needs and to handle the peak traffic times. 
  • Strategies to minimize the air and noise pollution
    
• Missions, objectives and plans, in sync with the vision and the abovementioned comprehensive plan, for all elements (i.e. governing authorities and citizens). 
  
  • All governing authorities should declare these openly, including the response time commitment to feedbacks/queries/suggestions from citizens.
  • Similarly, all citizens and citizen bodies such as organizations of all types, clubs and associations of all types should take it as a cause to encourage responsible citizenship and deplore irresponsible behavior. All schools, colleges and parent communities should work together to encourage citizens of tomorrow to take pride in responsible behavior and impart skills regarding safe behavior on the roads.
    
• Identification of recurring problems and meeting the challenge by finding innovative solutions, in our own context. Governing authorities and the Citizens should team up in the process of problem identification as well as coming up with solutions.
