Hi!
Its a good idea to awaken people and make them understand the importance of following the traffic rules.I my self have been driving in Pune for the last 33 years and I know personalyy how the traffic situation has deteriorated over the years. It is a nightmare to drive in Pune particulartly so if you are a scooterist. The traffic rules should be taught not only to vehilce drivers but alos to the pedestrains and cyslists. The movement should be taken to municipal schools and cycle stands in Pune in order to have any effect. I will try and help in whatever way I could to achieve the mission of this organization.I am a Professor and could always tell my students to join this movement.
Thanks,
S.A.Kulkarni

Comments: It is great to see such a movement taking shape. You have talked about 'die-hards'. Well a few months back, I was a victim of such a die hard at the ARAI traffic signal! I was hit by a bunch of few hooligans for not breaking the signal at this chowk!! Can you believe this? I have been to many cities in India, but Pune traffic I rate as the worst next to Ahmedabad. The saying goes that if you can drive in Pune, you can drive anywhere in the world!!
Worst, I find Police department & Army (NDA) Vehicles breaking the traffic rules and signals!
Let us get together to educate Puneties how it pays to follow the rules.

Comments: No one except the citizens are at fault, just no one. If the citizens are diciplined nothing can go wrong. Do you expect the police men to stand on zebra crossings to stop each and every one from halting their vehivle on it. No. Its our duty to do it. Teh first basic thing is that we all are careless. How many of us break traffic rules and signals just because we dont get caught. Even if we get topped in the so called IT industry and praise the US community for its progress have we seen the type of dicipline they have. Can we build it in us. We are pool of ignorant people who run away from our responsibilities and blane the other guy. Think over for your self. All we can do is write letters and host such sites.
BEST OF LUCK

Comments: Pollution:
Why aren't we much worried about pollution? I guess when water reaches the Nose level then we will realize it. Why do we have to wait till the doomsday to take actions?

For e.g why can't we make PUC compulsory(no petrol without PUC), helmets compulsory.
Most of the traffic police do not seem to know the rules of Learning license. An experienced driver is supposed to be with such people especially for 2 wheelers. But who cares in pune?

Comments: This is indeed a great drive!! And I sincerely appreciate the efforts behind it. I would rather call it as a public revolution. And, I firmly believe that such a great momemtum will highlight the importance of the traffic rules & regulations among the citizens.
I urge all citizens of Pune to actively participate in this drive and make Pune a better place to drive.

My 2 cents,
Dhananjay N Pavgi.

Comments: We will definitely do our bit. But the authorities should do theirs also. Like not putting back(speed) breakers every few hundred feet. If a road is dug up, ensure that when filled it is left in a state atleast as good/bad as before. Remove traffic lights on some narrow congested roads, strict pollution control. We will make driving safe, but a lot depends on the authorities to make it pleasant.

Comments: I would like to applaud the start of this movement.
Pune is a fast developing city with thousands of its citizens having visited foreign lands for education, work or just sight-seeing.We already have this large group of 'traffic-literate' people.
I sincerely hope this movement gets more and more followers.

Ajit Raje:

Comments: First of all let me congratulate you on starting a movement about which I feel strongly. While agreeing totally about the observation that almost the entire onus is on us individuals, I also have the following obsrvations -1. Even for those wishing to observe the signals, it is seen that the bulbs of the signals often do not work. This results in a situation where a driver may want to obey the signals but does not know what to do as the red or green bulb does not work. Here too, the individuals or some institutions can probably take responsibility of ensuring that light bulbs are changed which is not very difficult. 2.I have observed that timers at signals can make a significant difference. If nothing else, it gives a visual display that there are only a few seconds before the signal changes. 3. I agree that by and large police do their job effectively, however personally I think that they are lax with those who jump signals etc. Self driven discipline is fine, ho!
wever there also should be a clarity that disobedience merits fairly strict punishments
